The Present

Exhibition Dates: 4 August 2007 to 7 August 2007

Artist Statement:

The works of artist, Eve Ong was highly sought after even before she graduated from LaSalle-SIA in mid-2005. Since then she has had three solo exhibitions which mainly focused on the themes and concepts of Self. Eve Ong gathered her inspirations from the complexities of self. She uses various styles to convey the visual elements by portraying self in a very surrealistic manner.

Life is complex and the expression “more than meets the eye” is a given for many situations and circumstances. “More than meets the eye” also adequately expresses Eve Ong’s art. Life is not as simple as it seems. There are lots of hidden motives and agendas. Eve Ong’s paintings have a message which can be missed if not carefully examined. The adage “A picture speaks a thousand words” therefore adequately describes her work. Art is more than a picture; it’s a poem, a message and a map to a destiny. “Oh, that’s a nice painting!” is insufficient for this artist. She wants the observer to think and think deeply about the meaning and purpose of life.

Her paintings from the third solo exhibition were marketed for between S$ 8,000-S$12,000 apiece. 80% of the sold works have been acquired mainly by foreign persons and institutions. At present she is commissioned to do a 2 X 4m mural painting for a Singapore/London based company. The work will be displayed in the lobby of London office.

The mural depicts the history, values and strategy of the company. They have grown from a London based company to a major player in South East Asia, Australia and the USA. The visual elements depict its growth, development and direction towards the global insurance market.

A preview of the mural painting will be unveiled on 3 August 2007 and a short video presentation will be presented to introduce the work.
