Falling birth rate has been an issue that plagues our nation. Despite several benefits set out to entice married couples, no quick solution can be found. Choices portrays a painting within a painting of a woman who is ‘bounded,’ similar to wearing a straitjacket. But there is another woman who is carrying this ‘said’ painting. She has the option to stay behind it rather than be on it. Whatever prompted the pregnancy, the ‘said’ woman is bounded, not by the benefits but by her commitment to shape the next generation … through the child she is carrying.
Ultimately, I feel that to conceive or to keep the child lies with women because of the knowledge of the immense responsibilities … from the moment of conception to growing pain … the hectic schedules never relent. What is at stake here is beyond these responsibilities … it is the shaping of the next generation. Hence, this painting represents the crossroad where the woman is – Choices
